Today, we went to the Chemistry Lab to do experiments on Acids and Bases such as the pH value of the acids and bases. It was really interesting how the pH papers could change in colour to show the pH value of the solutions.
We also did an experiment on helium. Helium is the lightest element on earth therefore will rise if the hole of the test tube is not covered. Hence, we had to cover the hole of the test tube. Then, we took a wooden splinter and lit it on fire. After which, we let go of our thumb and put the wooden splinter above the hole of the test tube. Then, with a loud "POP!" the fire was estinguished.
Everyone was intrigued.

Today, we were given many activities about balancing equations and I felt that it was very interesting. I contributed a lot to the class when Miss Goh asked for volunteers to write our answer on the board. I also attempted to explain to my deskmate, Jia Wei, as she was not too sure about some of the facts. I am still wondering how to find out whether a compound / base / metal / carbonate / ... is a solid, liquid, gas or aqueous. I think I should ask Miss Goh about it tomorrow...

Today, Miss Goh went through a few chemical equations again and also gave us a worksheet on it. The worksheet taught us how to convert compounds to chemical equations. Miss Goh also gave us a worksheet about the valency of electrons (which was supposed to be given out at the start of the year) with all the polyatomic ions, etc. I am still wondering about how to find out whether a compound / base / metal / carbonate / ... is a solid, liquid, gas or aqueous. I forgot to ask today... I think I will Miss Goh the next time, if I remember or just ask my elder brother instead! :)

I forgot to ask... again. Anyway, I think I will ask next week since we were told that we will have a "study session". Today, we were issued a 80-question "exercise" - quoting Miss Goh. 80-questions. Exercise. Wow. Nevertheless, I feel that it is a good experience for us to practice our knowledge about conversion of equations. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.

Today we did a practical and it was very fun. We were scolded for not using our test tube holder and throwing glass shards into the big bin. Miss Goh told us that we should think of the green men and what if the glass shards cut someone? We hung our heads low. Also, when we came back to class, we went through the Acids and Bases Assignment. I learnt that

Today we went through the answers for the 80-question EXERCISE and also the "MORE ionic compounds" EXERCISE. Then, she went through the answers. My friend and I was scolded for making too much noise (e.g. laughing too much). We were very apologetic when we looked back at our behaviour. We will never do that again.
